Sileshi Girma
Sileshi GirmaEthiopia
I, Seleshi Girma (ስለሽ ግርማ) is currently working as the state minister of Destination and Infrastructure Development at Ministry of Tourism of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. I have earned a BA degree in Tourism Management /in Gondar University/, MBA in international business /in Mekelle University/ and MSc in Wildlife Conservation & Ecotourism /Bahirdar University/, PGD in Tourism /Salzburg, Austria/ and started university teaching in a very young age. I have served as a CEO of Tourism Ethiopia from 2019-2021, as a university professor, worked as an advisor for culture & tourism ministers, led the Addis Ababa city tourism (nation’s capital) & got the exposure of working with international donors. To ensure sustainability, I envisioned building a pathway to enhance the profitability of tourism business operators and ensure the local community in each tourist destination gets a fair shot. I am pursuing a CFT qualification through SUNx Malta in collaboration with Institute of Tourism Studies and look forward to being part of the CFT Chapter for Ethiopia as I now have a strong vision of creating climate smart travel in Ethiopia.
Tewodros Derbew Yimam
Tewodros Derbew YimamEthiopia
I am Tewodros Derbew, and I am a passionate and determined Tourism Professional. For 17 years, I dedicated my service to the Ethiopian Tourism Sector. My academic journey in tourism began at the University of Gondar, where I studied Tourism Management, and I furthered my education by pursuing a Master's Degree in Human and Economic Development of Africa from Addis Ababa University. I started my career as a junior tourism expert and, through consistent effort and a commitment to professional excellence, I progressively climbed the career ladder. Throughout my tenure, I believe I made significant contributions to the Ethiopian Tourism Sector. My work ranged from ensuring quality assurance to developing crucial policies and strategies, and from driving destination development to spearheading marketing initiatives. My deep involvement in various aspects of tourism development across my country provided me with unique opportunities to truly immerse myself in critical issues such as climate change, ecotourism, and sustainability within the tourism industry. Furthermore, I am proud to have co-founded the Ethiopian Tourism Professionals Association alongside my esteemed colleagues. Currently, I serve as a Strategic Advisor and Project Coordinator at the Ministry of Tourism of Ethiopia. In my continuous pursuit of knowledge and growth, I enrolled in the 2-year diploma course with SUNx Malta through ITS Malta. I am presently in my internship year, and I am honored to be leading the Chapter in Ethiopia.
